Upcoming Local Events and News
- June 20-21 - Seed Festival at Bishop Museum's Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden. This year they will be offering camping at the garden the evening before the Exchange, Friday June 20. Anyone who is bringing "seed or plant materials" to exchange with the community the next day may camp. There will be a dinner buffet Luau (imu and potluck) and buffet breakfast the following morning for guests. After dinner on Friday there will be a bonfire, storytelling and music. RSVP is a must! The Seed Exchange begins the next morning at 8:30 a.m.
- September 24-25, 2008 - Farmer-Chef Conference on Partnerships for Sustainable Local Food Production, presented by ACF Kona-Kohala Chefs de Cuisine at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort. In addition to the conferences, SFH member Ken Love reports: "One of the events that may be of particular interest to SF members is a dinner on Sept. 24 which will be 100% local. Chef Trask who is our ACF president is going out of his way to make this a spectacular event featuring the best of what the state has to offer."
- Our new and expanded Guide to Big Island Food is now online!
- Do you have overflowing orange, tangerine, avocado, etc. trees, or runaway zucchini? As part of an Urban Farming initiative, volunteers in Waimea and Waikoloa will pick or pick up fruits or vegetables from your garden you wish to share. These will be delivered to the Food Bank. Call Tina Wirth at 887-1087 or email Sue Kilbride.
- We would like to expand the presence of Slow Food Hawaii to other farmers markets on the Island, and are looking for volunteers in Kona, North Hawaii or Volcano who might be willing to set up a booth from time to time at the Keauhou, Hawi or Volcano farmers markets. Please help!

As a Big Island resident or visitor, when you join Slow Food you can participate in all the events of the Big Island convivium. We look forward to sharing our Big Island food and food culture with you.
